Mustard Spoon - GL with other worn marks

This spoon had the lion and a mark next to it that might be Newcastle - it's very worn but under 30x it looks more like 3 worn castles than a double spigot. The first mark, which is bareely visible at 30x magnification is an extremely worn profile facing to the left. At the to, clearly, is GL. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Elizabeth

Just had the thought that you could maybe check to see if your town mark matches Chester marks as GL....George Lowe is the only GL I can remember. Best wishes, Mike.

I agree with Mike - looks like the Chester assay office mark. However, as for maker, Mike, I reckon you were referring to George Lower Junior? Jis mark is a very very close match - the marks of George Lower I & II are quite different.

Thank you Waylander..you are of course right. I no longer have most of my old reference books so rely much on memory....which as you may realise...loses its potency with age....Best wishes, Mike.

Thank you all so much and please accept my apology for being slow with my thanks; a bug got the better of me for a bit. It is such a bear dealing with British marks! I have yet to see one that actually looks like any in books. Guess it's time to go hunting some new books ;)
Best wishes to all for a wonderful Spring,
Betsy
