Can't figure out this lion and letter.

Post by RudolfNL »

I have a silver table bell of approx. 10 cm in height.

As far as I can see it was imported by Berthold Mueller/Miller in 1906 in Chester and it is 925 silver.
I know that the company BM imported a lot of Hanau Silver.

But there are 2 marks that I cannot identify.
It are:
- the standing lion
- a letter in a shield (perhaps the top of a ‘p’ or ‘o’)

These are some pics I made

This one is from internet, but it shows the same lion.

Hi,
Pseudomarks of the maker Neresheimer, Hanau, Germany.
See here:

Imported to UK by well known and documented importer Berthold Mueller (BM).

You are on fire!

I searched all day, also looked at several Hanau Silversmiths but couldn't find it.

You must become a detective!

An advice for research in the future; Hanau silversmiths used various combinations of pseudo marks, sensless in some cases.
The rule of thumb; only one mark is needed for positive identification; there is no need for perfect match of the entire set of marks.
Your marks are well documented: s489 (n) and npr (lion) under Neresheimer.
Their letter n appears in various sets of marks.
