not sure if dutch or the date
Re: not sure if dutch or the date
Yes, it is a Dutch tobacco box, made between 1814-1905, standard mark lion passant above 2(.833 fineness) used 1814-1953, the Minerva head /office mark for 1814-1905 however too unclear to recognize a regional assay office mark in its helmet. Please check for a year letter.
The maker's mark too unclear for a positive identification. However could it read BM90? If so it is for; Bastiaan Meijer, registered in Schoonhoven and Middelburg 1850-1890. Bastiaan Meijer used BM90 in a square shield and in a narrow rectangle, known maker of (ribbed) tobacco/snuff boxes. In 1860 Bastiaan left Schoonhoven to work in the city of Middelburg province of Zeeland.
