Dutch? 18th century Fork

Postby legrandmogol » Mon Apr 13, 2020 2:22 pm

Here is a fun one. Based on the style of the fork I am almost certain it is of Dutch origin. It is hollow with steel tines, measures about 8" long and it is only marked either IP or IB. Sadly the bottom half of the second letter is cut off. I could be looking at the mark upside down, however. Hopefully, someone (Peter) can clear up my suspicions. I have little hope in finding the maker though.

Hi, share your opinion. Dutch, maker's mark only.IP or IB gives too many names of possible makers. Just left home without access to my library. If needed will check after the 28th April some possible candidates of Dutch town silver guilds. It will be difficult.

Best,

Peter.

Yeah, I tried to no avail. I also forgot that the mark could be IR which just expands the options. I went through Citroen's book on Amsterdam marks but none of the IR IB or IP marks really match.
