Hi, Can you help identify this trinket box - where from and age. Covered with marks!
Lion surrounded by 3 keys
Profile Head surrounded by 3 keys
initials JK.
A circular initial mark to inside I think.
Scalloped shell shape, and lined in suede.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Vickie,
Yes Dutch, the lion passant 2nd standard mark, 833/000 silver fineness and with 3 export keys; first key to indicate for export and partly refund duties, and 2nd key imported back and duties paid and 3rd key exported again, partly refund of paid duties.
The maker's mark is JK. above 1 for; Jacob Kooiman Az, registered in the city of Schoonhoven 1860-1893.
The year letter gothic E for 1889.
Assay office mark or Minerva head with regional assay office letter M for Schoonhoven, including 3 export keys. This is done by mistake because the export key is supposed to be attached to the standard mark being a lion or sword mark or duty mark.
Export key; restitution of 2/3 marking duty was only granted for new or unused objects. This mark was always struck partially into the standard mark, small mark (sword) or duty mark for unguaranteed new objects of national origin. Upon re-importation and payment of of duty this mark was cancelled by a second stroke of this key mark normally across the first. Valid 1853-1953
Peter.
