Only the star on the bottom is the same on both. Any idea on maker? I did look on the Dutch site but no luck. I am not sure which of the 3 marks may be the maker's mark.

Two similar Dutch 1885 snuff boxes but different marks?
These two boxes are obviously very similar and both have the date mark for 1885. I couldn't identify the marks on either one, other than obviously, the lion with #2, the minerva (on top) and the date mark.
Only the star on the bottom is the same on both. Any idea on maker? I did look on the Dutch site but no luck. I am not sure which of the 3 marks may be the maker's mark.

Hi,
The 6-pointed star looks like a Maastricht star from the 18th century and before (although it should have been a 5 pointed star). It may also mimic a Frisian makers mark.
The crowned O is a mark from 1807 for old pieces that are brought back into the market.
The crowned Andreas crosses marks indicate Amsterdam, but there should be 3 above eachother.
The walking lion with a arabic 2 indicates 833/000 silver, stamped between 1814 and 1953.
The date letter (in your last picture) is the A of 1885.
I'm sure you are getting my drift by now. All but the lion and the 1885 marks are pseudo marks.

It's Dutch from 1885. There should also be an office mark and a makers mark somewhere. But one could never really rely on the essay office to do their work properly, many things could have gone wrong.
There are even pieces that have a whole rim full of office or date marks .. the guy was probably drunk or mad at his wife.
Pseudo marks were used in large numbers around the turn of the 20th century.
