Good day
I am trying to find out more about this tea spoon. It has a date letter from 1906, standard mark silver .833 fineness (1814-1953). Maker mark is JS with hammer beneath. Is it usual for small items to carry the large fineness mark? Any information about maker will be welcome.

Hi Jannie,

Maker's mark JS above hammer for; Johannes Henricus Schijfsma, registered in the city of Sneek from 1902/1911. The date letter could be the Gothic T for 1903, misstruck doubled, like the standard mark for large and medium work.

For me this could be the Gothic U for 1904.
Herewith a little extra information about the Schijfsma family business in Dutch;

Johannes Schijfsma Joh.zn. werd geboren op 4 oktober 1821 te Sneek, hij richtte met zijn vader Johannes Jans Schijfsma in 1847 de firma J. Schijfsma en zoon op. Johannes begon in 1848 een goud- en zilversmederij te Woudsend. Hij behield het bedrijf tot 1902 (op 15 februari 1902 werden zijn meestertekens vernietigd). Hij overleed op 25 april 1903 te Sneek waarna de zaak overgenomen werd door zijn zoon Johannes Henricus Schijfsma.
Johannes Schijfsma Joh.zn.was born on October 4, 1821 in Sneek, he founded together with his father Johannes Jans Schijfsma in 1847 the firm J. Schijfsma and Son. In 1848 hannes started a gold and silversmith shop in Woudsend . He runned the company until 1902 (on February 15, 1902 his master signs were destroyed). He passed away on 25 April 1903 in Sneek, after which the business was taken over by his son Johannes Henricus Schijfsma.
