hello,
I've been eating with siverware half my life, but I'm new to marks :-)

I try to find out what's what.
On the pistolknives I see a small mark I can't find on http://www.zilverkeuren.nl, so I hope you can help.
It looks a bit like a dolphin with a big log above it's head, or if you turn your head: a deformed '13'
The two other marks are
-an F in a crowned shield and -a standing lion, also in crowned shield.

Welcome to the forum.

The pistol-knives; Crowned Lion Rampant for the city of Leeuwarden in the Dutch province of Friesland.
Leeuwarden date letter F Crowned; for the year 1721
The maker’s mark is malformed and could may be read HD in a monogram conjoined, the contour of the shield perhaps for; Harmanus Dillinck sr. 1706-1737
You noticed I am careful and perhaps we should say; unknown maker’s mark. The mark of Harmanus Dillinck sr is also known to have been faked.
I guess you know more about the pistol-knives provenance and if the knives have been in your family for generations, I believe we can rule out the possibility of fake marks.

Dankje, Oel. I re-studied that mark (on 12 knives one time missing completely, one time just what looks like a lying capital i or a dogbone-): I can't make out HD. I read a post somewhere here mentioning the 'looks like 13' too, but that wasn't solved.

These knives are likely to have been in the family, although I can't go further back than mid-19th century, when my great-grandparents lived.

Looking at the new provided photo, to me the intitials look like B I for; Bernardus Jelgerhuis I, registered 1716-1766. Unfortunately this mark can also sometimes be encountered as a falsification. However with the known provenance we might be looking at the real mark of Bernardus Jelgerhuis I.
