The second spoon I have is a wavy end spoon with rat tail to bowl . It is hallmarked 6 over N and makers mark script DB co-joined. It has a birth inscription on the back of the bowl for Antje Radersma for 1794, although I think the spoon may be older. There is also a small crest with two paddles which may be linked to the bakkers Gilde. The spoon is 8 inches long. Any information would be much appreciated. John

Hello again Joho,

This spoon is made in Groningen maker’s mark FDB (arranged in a monogram) for Frederik de Booser, registered 1722-1745, Groningen date letter A for 1726, so you have been right to assume the spoon to be older as the inscription; to remember the birth of Antje Radersma. The crest could be linked to the Baker’s Guild and we are perhaps looking at wooden paddles to take bread out of a hot stone oven.

Regards,

Oel

Hi Oel - thanks again for a very useful and informative reply. This is much appreciated. I have some books on Dutch silver, but it is really the makers that that I find very difficult to identify, so thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Best regards John
