Worn Marks on Dutch Teaspoon

Postby dognose » Sat Feb 12, 2011 8:54 am

Hi,

I could some help with this one. A Dutch teaspoon, 5" (13cm) in length, 2nd Standard.

The marks are somewhat worn, but the Minerva Head seems ragged on the top, more like hair than a helmet. The date letter is nice and clear, 1818, but is there enough of the maker's mark remaining for anyone to make an educated guess as to the identity of the silversmith?

Any help appreciated.

Trev.

Hi Trev,

Perhaps the maker’s mark for Gerardus Keijsers, city of Eindhoven, date entry 1817-1821. Gerardus Keijsers makers’ mark a Royal Orb in a rectangular frame.

Oel

Hi Trev,

Perhaps the maker’s mark for D.H. Weissich, city of Middelburg, date entry 1817-1828. D. H.Weissich makers’ mark a W under a Clover in rectangular frame.

Oel

Hi Oel,

Upon close inspection it does indeed appear to be a 'W' under a clover leaf.

Many thanks for identification.

Hi Oel,

Many thanks for that. I'm now satisfied that the mark on the spoon is the mark of Weissich.

Regards Trev.
