Maker/date/town and use of small sailing barge salt?

Please help me with the maker/production date and town of this barge and horse box/salt.

It has import marks for Sheffield 1894, Samuel Boyce Landeck.

It also has a lion on his back feet with perhaps an O or a key near the bottom. This is in a shield and stamped on the barge and the horse base.

There is a capital F on the barge rudder and horse base.

There is VS above a star on the rudder.

There is also another mark which I can't make out.

Please help.

Thank you in advance,

Craig

Hi,
Your object is actually made by the Dutch master "VS over a star". I do not know this mark and there are too many possibilities to have a guess.

The lion rampant is the standard .934 and the key is the Dutch export mark. I can not read the date letter. The other mark, you mention, is probably the Minerva head with a letter of the assay office inside the helmet.

Hope this helps!

Hello.

I read the Sheffield import marks as 1896.

Agree with Jakjo that your piece is Dutch.
I think your VS mark was used by the van Straten family from the Dutch town of Hoorn.
Jacob van Straten founded the firm in 1845. Their history spans several generations.

I have a miniature horse & Carriage with the VS over a * so I assume it would be a van Straten piece too...
