Van Kempen Pickle forks

Post by treefish »

Hi there I'm new here....I found out that some forks I have are Dutch and would like to know roughly when they were made please.....

They are 12.5cm long and are marked with abbreviated Dutch marks for Sterling and export marks together with the mark for Van Kempen...I think...any clue as to date would be most appreciated.

I really hope I haven't fallen foul of the guidelines!!! It's very late/early here in Scotland and I'm very tired!!

Hi,

Could you make a straight closeup of the maker's mark and the sword?

Sorry for the long delay...I've been trying to take a good close up...without success...I have however noticed that the makers mark has that sort of c or G and this dates the forks to this century? knowing that they are not really old is enough for me...thanks!

Hi,

The sword mark was used from 1814 till 1953 in two shapes (it changed in 1906) so that could be helpful in dating. The export mark was used from 1853, but that could have been struck later.
I think it is a 20th century (1st half) set.
