Dutch trinket box - maker identification request

Post by SilverK »

Hi,

I have this Dutch box which I think was made in Schoonhoven in 1838. The maker appears to be 'K' above an apostrophe.

I would be grateful for any help in identifying this maker.

Many thanks,

Silverk.

K above script number 1 for ; Adrianus G. Kooiman, silversmith registered in Schoonhoven, born 1807- died around 1840. He was the son of the silversmith Andries Graves Kooiman (active 1777-1808) Adrianus took over his father's tools in 1808 and probably his company as well; in 1837 he worked with three servants and four apprentices; after the death of Adrianus Kooiman, his widow, Kok- Kooiman, continued the business until 1860. After her death her son Jacob Kooiman continued the silversmith workshop. (S.A.C. Begeer, E. Hak etc. 1981, p. 92).
