Is this a tally mark? Snyder & Beddoes 1916

I am very new to silver & hallmarks but think I have the identified the maker & year (by using your excellent site)
Cigarette box ~ Synyer & Beddoes Birmingham 1916
Is the strange little mark at the beginning a Tally mark, (which I read in the glossary). I hope the photos work, I have used 3 pics as the main hallmark has worn away.

Yes, you are correct, it is the workman's tally mark.
