Circular plate/dish in sterling silver
Imported to Denmark and sold by English Silver House (E.S.H)
diameter is 24.5 cm
weight 311 grams
marked with Lion and Anchor and 925 and a sign I cannot identify

The problem is inconsistency with Birmingham marks. No maker`s mark (sponsor`s) as expected; only letter B beside 925, no date letter.
It could be American (they often used both lion passant and anchor).But if really Birmingham, this kind of export silver with marks like those, are unknown to me.

I've tried to look at american markings without any luck

I´ll try to contact English Silver House here i Copenhagen and ask them - they should know what they have sold

Well English Silver House got back to me this morning
they said that ESH was their initials
925 indicates that it´s sterling silver
lion is sterling
anchor is birgmingham
they cannot say why the english hallmarks are incomplete (normally 4 stamp)
Thay cannot identify the engraved letter (LB og TB) between 925 and the Lion
hmmm ? - anyone with an idéa ?
I think that maybe the dish was made for export in England

Despite what ESH implied to you this anchor (and therefore also the lion passant) are not official Birmingham hallmarks. In particular this exact punch shape is one which has never been used by the Birmingham Assay Office. I suspect that ESH or their supplier must have applied these stamps themselves.

The engraved letter is simply an upper case B in the gothic style.

Guess I will have to get it checked if its Sterling silver at all !

It is sterling; ESH is a reputable retailer, they would not sell anything marked 925 of lower fineness.
The origin of the plate is another story; to make it profitable, they had it made elsewhere with lowest production cost.

Yes - thats exactly my thoughts on this piece
English Silver House is/was large silver seller here in DK (E.S.H.est, 1969 and still active)
So the production would be 60's and up

I was just very confused about the gothic B in the markings.
Think this is a done deal !

It has the right "feelling" as Sterling does.


Birmingham , no
Sterling silver , yes (marked with the lion and 925)
English Silver House , Yes - ESH
guess it's a close we can get to this item
