Scent bottle with a silver top JR&S

Postby Granmaa » Mon May 08, 2006 11:24 am

Here is what I presume to be a scent bottle; it has a silver top which was assayed in Birmingham 1889. However, the maker's mark, JR&S, is unknown to me.

The makers mark for your piece is that of J Reading & Sons. Other than the markbeing entered in May 1988 I can't tell you much more as information on them is somewhat sparse.

Sorry, I just realised That I typed 1988 and it should have been 1888. One of the references I use for Birmingham is "The Silversmiths of Birmingham and their marks: 1750-1980" edited by Kenneth Crisp Jones.
