Birmingham Scissors hallmarks

Postby alby87 » Tue Dec 31, 2013 6:42 am

Good morning,

I bought this pair of scissors at an antique shop in London. So far I have determined that it was made by Adie & Lovekin (ALLd) in Birmingham (anchor) in 1903 (d) and it is made of sterling (lion).

Morover the word "sterling" has been engraved on the top part of one of the two blades (not visible on these photos).

I would like to confirm my research please.

Thank you very much

Alberto

Sorry, I meant "sheffield" not "sterling"

I agree with your analysis. Sheffield was a centre for the manufacture of cutlery (knives and their blades). Adie & Lovekin no doubt bought the scissors blades from a Sheffield manufacturer and added the handles themselves.

Phil
