Hello all.

I've been looking for information on this 'OPB' maker mark and couldn't find anything. Based on the border, I suppose the the letter 'C' is 1851? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I have tried the BAO website to no avail. I'm new here in hopes of helping my mother identify this piece. Thanks a lot! Below are the photographs!

I apologize for having problems figuring out how to post images. Ill get it right at some point in the near future...

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Absolutely no apologies necessary, It's a good first post. I hope I don't disappoint you but your item was assayed at Birmingham in 2002, this is confirmed by the additional mark on the far right that is the commemorative mark that was applied for the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002.

Hopefully someone else can identify the sponsor.

Trev.

I do not know who the maker is, but I have contacted Birmingham assay on a couple of occasions to ID makers marks.

Send them the photo of the mark you have, they will reply.

Thanks for your reply. It is indeed very disappointing as I had purchased this item in advance of my mother's birthday at quite an inflated price with the assumption that the piece was in great shape and with lots of history. Looks like I will be requesting a return.
