sideways anchor and unidentifiable birmingham mark

Post by ag93 »

Hi, I have a set of twelve spoons, stamped for birmingham but the anchor is sideways, I have never seen this before. Also I've looked up the date letter and can't find a matching date.
Any help much appreciated!

Birmingham 1891 - Elkington & co
I would suggest that the width or size of the item would dictate which way the anchor would be placed

Hello,

You will find that, as a general rule, the anchor is usually on its side before 1900.
