Fruit Knife

Postby Flyball » Sun May 29, 2005 3:58 pm

Can you please help? I've searched a long while but cannot come up with an answer. This Fruit Knife was carried about by my Mother for as long as I can remember. It is neatly packaged in a little green holder that slides apart in the middle. It has a pearl handle neatly engraved with a flower motif. My Mother was 95 when she passed away 2 years ago.
Further images can be supplied if necessary. Thank you for any help.

Hello,
The fruit knife you have has the hallmarks for Birmingham England 1873-74 by George Unite. The blade is sterling silver .925 , George Unite made many smaller pieces that are much sought after by collectors and are usually of very nice quality! These were made for eating fruit or cheese. Folding forks were also made, but are more unusual to find. It is more valuable with its original case and of course harder to find. The fact that yours is very nicely decorated and has its original case make it a very desirable piece! I hope this will help . Thanks!

Joe
