Can anyone help me with a thimble please?

The hallmarks are really worn. I'm pretty
sure it's Edinburgh silver- it appears to be a thistle on it. It has a
'7' and a 'v' but I can't figure out which shield the 'v' looks most
like because it is so worn. It looks kinda itallicised. What do you
guys think?

It's boxed too if that's relevant. :)

Not sure if it is a thistle actually, upon comparing it with the hallmarks on the website again it might be an anchor. What do you guys think? I'm scoobied.

I'm no expert on thimbles - do you have any idea of the approx. date based on style etc.?

I'm pretty certain the first of the three marks is an anchor - therefore Birmingham. The second of the three marks should then be a lion - indicating sterling silver. The third is the date letter - and the different cycles were differentiated by the style of the letters and the shape of the box. One possibility for a "v" is 1820 - although I can't see enough detail to be sure.

This date might then suggest that the "S&S" makers mark belongs to T Simpson & Son who were active in Birminghan at that time.

My guess is that the "7" indicates the size.

It belonged to my gran. I don't know where she got it from. I've enclosed a close up picture of the design on the thimble- it's little flowers all over the top and little squares at the bottom. I've shown a picture of the box it came in, but the picture's a bit pants. I really need a camera that's better at close ups. I actually magnified the thimble through a crystal ball to be able to see the hallmarks better!lol.Image

Hi,
The shape of the shield cartouches around the hallmarks (with their inward curving sides) brings it to the date letter series begun in 1950, V would be for 1971.
