need help for maker's mark MJ

Postby frenchie_myriam » Sat Oct 29, 2005 10:22 am

Hello all,

Again an inkwell from my collection assayed in 1926 in Birmingham, but I have no clue about the maker.

Thanks in advance for your help

Have a great day.
Myriam

Unfortunately your photograph is rather fuzzy. Have another look at the maker's mark, is there the possibility of an ampersand (&) between the M and J. If yes the likely candidate is Marston & Jones. Crisp Jones illustrates two marks for them one 1915 and the other 1931 so they were in business when your piece was assayed.

Many thanks Gerryl,

Yes there is an & between M and J so I guess that your information for Marston & Jones is the correct one.

Thanks again, Another mistery inkwell solved.

I have to say that this forum is really great.

Have a lovely day.

Best Regards
Myriam
