need help for maker's mark

Postby frenchie_myriam » Sat Oct 29, 2005 8:08 am

Hello there,

Another enigma for the silver Sherlock Holmes ! This inkwell was assayed in Birmingham in 1920. Unfortunately the maker's mark is partially rubbed.
It is in a sort of crest and it is written on 2 lines :
1st is S ( I cannot decifer the second character ) & S
2nd is LTD

Also what does the D placed before the maker's mark mean ?

Can someone help ? Thanks in advance. Good day to all. Myriam

Hi Neruda,

I am starting to exhaust all the possibilities of saying thank you in English. Next time I shall say it in French !!

Nevertheless thanks again, you are a gem !

Best Regards. Myriam
