Help understading mark on spoon.

Postby helares » Thu Oct 27, 2005 11:10 am

Dear fellow enthusiasts. I am enlarging my silver spoon collection to include British sterling and therefore need help deciphering the following spoon. I did my research but the marks do not seem to conform to any of the standards I have seen including those illustrated in www.925-1000.com.

The maker's mark reads: AGF. It also includes the lion in profile for 'sterling' but it is not in the right order according to what I have read so far; the lion appears second from the left. Can anybody help me while I catch up to speed? Thank you.

Henry L.

Looks like Birmingham 1939 - which fits with the style of your spoon. I'm afraid I don't know the maker.

Thank you, Neruda. I was indeed able to use your tip (Birmingham 1939) to find out a few more bits and pieces.

Appreciated, Henry L.

Is the letter a P or a F? If it´s a F, it´s Birmingham 1930.
