Birmingham Thimble

Here is what I have worked out so far
10 - no idea what this means

J.F - appears to be James Fenton of 74 Great Hampton Street, Birmingham (trade registered 5/4/1852) although this date seems to conflict with date mark

Anchor - Birmingham

Lion - English Sterling silver

r (in squareish shape) - 1916

Is it likely that James Fenton would still be working 64 years after registering?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello and welcome.

Yes, it is a Fenton mark.
This mark used after they became James Fenton & Company.
In business at least into the mid 20th century.

The "10" indicates the size.

Thanks for the replies.

I had no idea the 10 was a size mark, so that solves one mystery.

Becoming a company also sorts out the myster of JF's long career!

Now I have started doing this, it is becoming increasingly interesting!
