I read that as MAW, suspect it is a Mappin and Webb retail mark.

Don't recognise the mark as a Mappin and Webb retail mark and as it was made in Birmingham..possibly by Yapp and Woodward it may well be a Birmingham retailers mark. However...there are so many anomalies in the silver world that it could be Mappin and Webb!!!! Further research eh?

Hi Mike,
Concur that the "MAW" needs further research, but can't see how Yapp & Woodward come into it, the Mappin & Webb maker's mark is clearly struck. I do not know if their Mn&Wb Birmingham mark is documented in any reference, but I've seen it on a lot of Birmingham silver dating to the first half of the 20th century.
