I've determined that the subject item is a British Sterling mark. However, I've looked and could not find anything for the date and maker of this neat little serving jar. It measures about 6 or 7 inches high, has marks on the inside of the lid, the handle, and the body.

Well, stupid me, I should've looked for the letters GJDF as they appear in the photos. That lead me to http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7917&highlight=gjdf in this forum.

And now I see why I could not find anything written about it--it's complicated.

That looks like a good quality piece. The date is 1910 London and it could be a jam pot (missing the glass inner of course).

Thanks Granmaa, I've got the glass liner and a spoon. I had difficulty
photoing [sic] the jar with the glass in the sun--it was very sunny and
hot today and that caused tremendous glare.

Do you mind if I ask what (source or reference) you used for the date?

I know the letter P indicates the date, but apparently they
(the mfgs.) re-used the letters at times.

Never mind Granmaa-- I spoke too soon again. I see the rest of this web site
is packed full of info. I found the "London Date Letters - 1696 - 1935 & Maker's Marks" page.

No problem Granmaa; I'll get it out later today. However, it's nothing too
exotic looking in my opinion. It has a London, 1907 mfg date on it.

That's a nice spoon; often the spoons are lost and one finds salt or mustard spoons in their place, but that does seem to be a jam spoon.
