Hanoverian teaspoon with maker RB

Postby Granmaa » Sat Apr 28, 2007 1:57 pm

I'm not sure of the maker of this Hanoverian teaspoon with a strap drop made in the 1770s. It looks like it must be either R.B or K.B.

Miles

Could it be Richard Binley?, he was a small worker mark entered 1760, or maybe Richard Burcombe also a smallworker mark entered 1724, these are the only two London l can find with a pellet

Hi Nigel,

Thanks for your reply; I think Burcombe is too early, so, as you say, Binley is the only other one, but his mark doesn't quite match up. Perhaps this is one from the missing smallworkers register

With all the distortion from the stem thickening, it could conceivably be RR as well as RB. Have you considered Robert Rew, has the same sexy S curve to the diagonal legs of the R's. Registered as a largeworker, but small workers and large workers seemed to have crossed over often enough.

Regards, Tom
