just received from an austrian auction, it was designed by " the master " Dr. christopher Dresser - silver 1882 in top condition - what i want to know - there is a stamp in the case : J.W. Brooke : and beneath Vienna - does anybody something about him ? thanks a lot - tom from austriaaaaaaa

( dear admin - i know this is not a hallmark i am asking for- but i think it is a special case- and i do not know, who in the world can tell me, if not somebody out of this fine forum !! Thx for understanding )

Tom,

That is a hard task. I think it would be practically impossible if it weren't for the Royal warrant we can see. This means J. W. Brooke supplied his wares to Queen Victoria. Records have been kept of all Royal warrant holders since the 15th century. This can be accessed from the national archive website, but there is a cost. You can also go to the National archives and look yourself for free.

There is also a book with all Royal warrant holders from 1900 to the present day which might have your man.
