Need help id mesh purse marks

Postby ar1281a » Sat Oct 21, 2006 4:14 pm

Hi, sorry if this gets posted twice, but this is my first time posting and I'm unsure if I did right.

I have a mesh sterling silver purse, that belonged to my mom, that I can't seem to find information about.

The trim has the following marks: "GS" (I guess the maker's mark", what seems to be a cross, "925" and the letter "S"

Any help is greatly appreciated

Those are British sterling silver import marks for London. They started using these in 1906. The last mark (S) is a date mark, I read it as 1913.
The GS mark was used by the London importer George Stockwell.
Can't help you with the manufacturer of the purse.
