London 1814?

Hi,

I think these marks stand for London 1814.
Maker TL (? Thomas Lamborn, reg 1759, seems unlikely).

Could this be correct?

The cartouche for the date letter seems missing the tiny pointed detail in the bottom centre

Many thanks,
Gabriella

London 1814 is correct. The date letter punch is OK - the Assay Office seem to have used date letter punches both with and without the little point throughout the period. Your picture is too much out of focus to see the detail of the maker's mark but it looks more like TE or TF to me - if TF then Thomas Freeth would be a good candidate.

Hello,
Unsure if this is helpful but this is the makers mark of Thomas Lamborn assayed however in Sheffield in 1792. A pair of green stained ivory handled fruit knife and fork.

Trevor

Thank you Trevor, so provably it's not Thomas Lamborn then.
Thanks for posting the pictures to cross check!

Thank you Phil for you reply.

Interesting to know that the cartouche was not always of the exact same shape.

The maker could be TF (not easy to see even on direct inspection due to the slight wear). Great help!
