Goblet or flower vase?

Postby Granmaa » Mon Aug 14, 2006 8:44 am

I have here what I thought to be a vase, but a friend of mine suggested it might be a small goblet; it is 11.5cm high and assayed in 1903 London, what do you think?. Also, does anyone know the maker S&K?

I believe this is a Jewish 'Kiddush' cup. Best wishes, Mike.

It would be excellent if it were. It's the bowl which makes me doubt; on all other kiddush cups I've seen, the bowl has straight sides like this Russian one (pictured).
I tried drinking from my piece and the splaying lip was not facilitatory, although of course one wouldn't drink great amounts from a kiddush cup anyway.
I've noticed that one of the leaves in the pattern is blank for an inscription.
Does anyone recognize the maker?

Your mark is that for Salkind & Koshr London silver workers. Moses Salkind and Reuben Koshr (otherwise Rubin Kusher) joined in partnership and registered their mark on 4 January 1902.

Please note Miles...made by Jewish makers.
Best wishes, Mike.

Yes, that decides me: a cup it is.
Thankyou both for your kind help.
