Looks pretty normal for 1746 to me.

I hate to go against Phil, but I would say pseudos. The Lion passant in 1746 would be the 'cottage loaf' type, and the cartouche around the Leopard's head the wrong shape.

For more on the Lion Passant, see: Notes on the Lions Passant

Yes, I see what you mean, Trev. And the leopard's head looks a bit cruder than it probably should do. What a shame we can't edit our own posts!

hi!

Thanks. Yes, my first thought was pseudo, and the style is much more c 1900 art nouveau, then early georgian 1746, right?

I agree with Thomas and Trevor . The "l" looks to be in an unusual cartouche (punch) ,the Lion Passant Guardant is in the post 1756 onward form and looks more like a dachshund ,and is not compatible with the dateletter for 1746. The Leoparts Head looks to have an exaggerated crown. Most could be minor variants but together ...... !
Not provincial I think as the ogival bottom to the Lion very much indicates London

I'd appreciate an image of the makers mark, if any - which might give us all a bit more of a clue.

Hi!

Thanks. To make it more confusing...there is no maker's mark (or it is rubbed)
