HI all I have this Hanovarian Table Spoon.

As far as I can tell it dates 1705 (1697 ruled out from the spoons style ). If someone could confirm this date it would be appreciated. Even this seems early to me for a hanovarian table spoon, can anyone advise me when the earliest examples are seen.
Thanks,
Rhodri

Hello Rhodrit,
By chance my copy of the Finial has just arrived (the magazine of the Silver Spoon Club of Great Britain) and in it is a lengthy informative article on early Hanovarian spoons by Richard Stagg. To cut it short the earliest Hanovarian pattern spoon that he recalls is a London example from 1705/6 with other London spoons from 1708 and provincial spoons from the same date. Indeed he illustrates the article with a York spoon he has in his collection dated 1709/10. From the photograph I would not disagree with the date you attribute to the spoon and if so this would put your spoon as one of the earliest London examples. A great find!
Regards,
Trevor.

Hi Rhodri,
I'm just wondering if that date letter is maybe 1712?

Hi Trev,
Thanks for your reply. Until you blew the photo up I hadn't noticed the little remains of the rest of the shape but you are definitely correct. 1712 it is! I got excited for a minute there : )
Thanks again
Rhodri
