Good evening all and thank you in advance for any help. I was metal detecting in my yard and found this silver? Baby spoon with the name A . Fales on it. My house was built in 1828, and Fales is a name that goes back to the 1700 s in town.

Any information on maker and age would be great as I could then likely find which Fales it belonged to. I searched the hallmarks on this site and could not match any.

Your picture shows an upside-down London hallmark for the assay year 1804/1805. When inverted the symbol on the right is the duty mark. This has a notch on the bottom which was used from 11th October 1804 until the end of the assay year (end of May 1805) and was used to show that the changed duty rate had been paid.

Wow, that is great news. I did some research and found that Abigal Fales was the mother of Asa Smith, the gentleman who built my house in 1828. The dates you gave me suggest a cousin or niece of Asa. Very cool.
