HELLO

I'm trying to figure out this miniature silver photo frame.

The hallmarks certainly seem English but there is no makers mark. it has a capital F, lion, lower case f.

It measures 2 1/2 inches.

THANKS.

Yes, the sponsor's mark is not present; neither is the assay office mark. This usually happens when there is more than one part to the full item - one piece having a full hallmark and subsidiary parts having only partial marks. In this case I am not sure what sort of piece might be missing. The hallmarks are "F" for imported silver, lion passant for sterling silver and "f", the London date code for 1901. It is definitely a London mark due to the shape of the punches.

Thanks, I was thinking the same but this seems to be a complete item (save for the chain).

Hi,

The small photo frame could have been part of a little tree or other, with more small photo frames, like some kind of silver family tree photo frame holder. The frame holder, the biggest part could have been fully hallmarked.

Cannot be complete - pendant bail (the top loop) is missing if not meant for the tree as oel suggested. Without the bail it would not hang properly if the chain is introduced through the hole seen. It`s easy to find one.
