Thomas Northcote 1779 or earlier?

Postby narpin99 » Tue Jun 18, 2013 11:42 am

I have this bright cut table spoon that I'm trying to track down the maker date for.

I am leaning towards Thomas Northcote 1779. However I feel the style of the marks denotes an earlier period (George II). 1739 is an option for the date letter, but that rules Thomas Northcote out?

Any opinions?

Thanks in advance.

Bright cut Old English is a style that only appears in the later 18th century, so not 1739. A spoon of that date would have a Hanoverian stem and a different bowl shape.

In Grimwade's book the star shown here between the initials TN is unique to Thomas Northcote.
