Need help identifying the silver berry spoon marking

Hello,

I need help identifying this marking on my berry spoon. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The hallmark is for London 1666 but the maker's mark of B is unidentifiable as the other part has been rubbed. If you can see it better than is displayed in the photo perhaps you can describe it and we'll have another go.

Welcome to the Forum.

Guess you made a typo with that one, the date is of course 1764.

Hi Turtlelady,

As Bernard has suggested, it is difficult to maker an attribution with just part of the mark, but presuming that is a 'B', rather than an 'R', then perhaps two of the more likely candidates may be Edward Bennett (II) or Walter Brind, both known spoonmakers working at this time.

The spoon would have been quite plain for the first part of it's life, the conversion into a berry spoon would have been the result of later Victorian decoration.
