These were my old Aunt Mabel's who lived in Bramhall, Cheshire in the 1930's. I am puzzled by the lion which looks forwards, any help would be appreciated.

Hi Foffer,

Welcome to the forum.

You can find this at: http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Make ... JS-JZ.html"
The maker’s mark also seen with a larger ampersand (&) could be; of Josiah Williams & Co (but again probably) date seen 1933...1943
London date letter C for 1938, the Leopard's head city mark for London and Lion Passant sterling (925 fineness) British standard mark.

Regards,

Oel

You will find often find that after 1810 the lion passant is at right angles to the rest of the marks. This was done to prevent the transposition of marks from a relatively small piece such as a spoon to a larger piece.
