Hi, this is a spoon I recently dug up (I am a Metal detectorist) I can see a lion hallmark and a letter D but nothing else, I have checked my hallmark books but cannot come up with an ID. If the item is more than 300 years old I need to declare it as treasure trove and from this particular field I find items from Roman onwards. I will place two pictures, one is overall showing the spoon for style purposes and and the other is a close of of the marks, any help much appreciated.

Hi Ceasar,

That would be one of the marks used by Marmaduke Daintrey. This mark was registered on the 30th May 1747, so within the 300 year limit.

Thankyou, that was a very fast and complete reply, I will now try the village rolls to try and see if I can identify the people from the initials.

Thankyou
