Postby Yotionblade » Mon Mar 28, 2011 11:59 pm

If I understand this right from the research I have done. I would like to know if I read these halmarks correctly.
Image
From left to right the lady head is Queen Victoria I
The letter O is date mark of 1869
The lion is sterling mark
This forth one in a shield is a lion head meaning london. This one took me over an hour to figure out thaught it was crossed swords in a shield.

The letters GA stand for George William Adams
the letter L at the top This one I havnt a clue please help with this please

Thanks in advance Im new at this silver stuff and im just trying to figure out what I got here.

This is a mustard spoon by Chawner & Co -George William Adams, Hosier Street, London.

Spoon pattern: Fiddle

Date is 1869 and assay office is London, all correct.

The L on the spoon terminal (top of the handle) is just the spoon owners monogram.

Sometimes you do find or come across spoons with no monogram, but most do have a monogram (owners initials)

So what is the L by the hallmarks? Is this the same just put there as a monogram?

yeah sorry my first attempt with that camera to take a close up. Dang thing is a 12 megapixil too. You would think it could take a picture with a little more detail.
