Is this a Hester Bateman mark?

Postby user701 » Thu Sep 09, 2010 11:46 am

I bought a job lot of Georgian silver condiment spoons for my collection and just going through them and this one caught my eye, but not sure if it is a Hester Bateman mark and also just slightly unsure of the date.

Hi,

The date letter is 1821, the first date letter that is to be found accompanied with the uncrowned leopard's head mark.

The maker is most likely to be Jonathan Hayne (Grimwade1408), who was perhaps the most prolific producer of flatware at this period.

Regards Trev.
