Hello... Can anyone make out the maker on this case , has a blue topaz thumb latch, 437 grams , 6x3x1 inch, what would this large case have been for? Thanks Steve

Hi,
These are London import marks, Dunhill sponsored the importing and retailed the item.

If there are no other marks, the maker and country of origin will remain unknown, however it looks to be of German or Austrian make.

Judging by the mounts for the retaining straps, it was meant to hold standard sized unfiltered cigarettes.

Regards, Tom

Alfred Dunhill were known to retail Austrian pieces imported via George Stockwell & Co Ltd.
George Stockwell was a known importer of French items by Emile Puiforcat (1909) and Danish pieces by Georg Jensen (1922-1924).

Dunhill's English suppliers included Wright & Davies, Ramsden & Roed Ltd and George Betjemann & Sons Ltd.

It was often the choice of Dunhills to submit such items for assay by themselves.

Trev.
