George Titterton Marrow Spoon?

Postby Granmaa » Sun Jun 21, 2009 2:20 pm

This is a c.1710 rat-tail marrow spoon. It has one mark which may be George Titterton (Grim 2809). What do you think?

I think you see something there which I can't possibly make out. I doubt I'm alone, too.

Hi Miles,
I'm seeing what you are seeing and the odd shape of the right serif on the T's crossbar makes it look almost certain. However, to my eye, it all goes wrong when comparing the tops of the cartouche outlines, these seem to be at odds.

Regards, Tom

Thanks for your responses. I'm glad I'm not seeing things.
It's by no means perfect, especially the top of the cartouche, as you say, Tom.
Makers' stamps do vary, and some are never registered, but at the moment I'm only happy to say "possibly by Titterton".

Possibly - Probably - Definitely

here's a poor rendition of Titterton's mark from Howard's 1903 "Old London Silver".
