Trophy info is poss please

Postby helenatrunshaw » Wed Apr 29, 2009 3:07 pm

Hi, i;ve looked around your website and believe this to be a sterling trophy made by Edward Barnard and sons, london in 1917 if i have read the lists correctly (and not sure the Edward Barnard shield is the same as my camera did a great job of the detail surprisingly!) and i have not seen any of the plain shield next to the M but i really could be having a blonde moment and just not reading it right so do apologise in advance if i have.
Its purely curiousity as its an old prestigious perpetual trophy that i have recently won and would love some history/birthplace/date if at all possible and many thanks in advance,
Helen

Hi Helen,

Welcome to the Forum.

Your are correct, it's Edward Barnard & Sons Ltd, London, but it's 1927.

thank you for the welcome and thank you very much for the info, much appreciated. Do you know what the plain shield is for at all? 3rd emblem along?

That's the 'Leopard's Head', the mark of the London Assay Office, on your example the face is very worn by over-polishing. When you clean it, keep your thumb over the hallmark.

Thank you very much for that dognose. The original chap it was presented by was a member of a rather large and influential family from Flintshire , Lord Kenyon of the Gredington Estate so as much as it sounds daft i had an idea it wouldn't be some 'cheap piece' originally i'd have thought and its been so interesting 'googling' the history and your information, thank you very much
