Georgian specs

Postby Granmaa » Sun Aug 31, 2008 2:08 pm

I was wondering if anyone here has experience with Georgian spectacles.
This pair here have a lion and a duty but no maker's mark. There are the incuse letters IU, but I haven't been able to find them in Grimwade's spectacle makers section.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Miles

Hi Miles,

John Ustonson? listed as a smallworker, entered 1803. He's listed in the incuse marks section.

Regards Trev.

Ahhh! Thankyou Trev; that could well be him, although the internet yields no information on him.
It seems strange that both the arms should be marked while the bridge is not.
