Have looked on the internet, I think this is Silver, made in London in
1809.
The makers mark could be WD (the W is slightly clearer on the other hallmark on the outside of the tankard )- hallmarks in picture are from the inside of the lid.

There is a small symbol above the two letters - looks like a small branch with tiny leaves or like a sapling.

I would love to know who made this.

Thank - You for looking

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

The marks indicate that your piece was assayed at London in 1729.
The maker's mark is that of William Darker, who entered this mark on 12th August 1720.
Can you post some more pictures, including the other set of Hallmarks?

Trev.

Thanks for getting back so quickly with all the information.
Here are some more photos.
I've been told that the original would have been without decoration and this was added later as well as the spout. What do you think?
This was a gift and we are thrilled to own such a lovely piece.

Once again thank you for your help it is very much appreciated.
All the best

Yes, it has been altered after it was made. The Victorians were particularly fond of improving (as they saw it) plainer Georgian pieces; one of their most common alterations is changing a tankard into a jug.
