Hello everyone,

This object confuse me. Could you guys give me a little help please.
This is box Josip Broz Tito, former president of Yugoslavia, recieved from lord Mountbatten. Inscription:
TO MARSHAL TITO IN MEMORY OF THE VISIT OF H.M.S. GLASGOW AND H.M.S. SURPRISE JUNE 1952 MOUNTBATTEN OF BURMA & EDWINA MOUNTBATTEN OF BURMA

On the button of the box is maker' s mark REID & SONS LTD Newcastle on Tyne, but it also has London hallmark. Manufactured in London by Reid & Soons? Period?

Thanks!

The box was made by Reid and Sons Ltd in 1944, and it is a very nice piece.

I believe the firm was based in Newcastle but hallmarked its wares in London.

Thanks a lot Miles. That's it, everything is clear now.

This piece belongs to collection of Museum of Yugoslav History in Belgrade, Serbia. We are preparing exhibition "World of Silver" and plan to present objects made of silver Marshal Tito recieved from foreign statesmen, kings ant other famous persons like Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor etc.

Bests,
