hi i am having difficulty dating these decanters, they are a pair and quite lovely,i got them yesterday from london.
sadly though the mint stamps have rubbed off and i cannot date the piece as i do not know which mintier date font to compare with.
the maker is A.C &Ss and features on this web site but does not say where the company was based, any help to work out which part of the country these were made in and which date they were made would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Looks like London 1967.

Those hallmarks are meant to last 200 yrs+
I would think it to be London 1827

Nonetheless, 1967 it is. Apparently, it has seen a couple of hundred years worth of polishing in its short life. Have no info on the maker's mark AC & Ss (Sons)., possibly a later generation of Alexander Clark, ALfred Clark or Alexander Crichton.

fatso that is a modern font = modern date. there is always the possibility that the marks were deliberately rubbed to obfuscate the date, but most likely they just happened to be on the receiving end of a polishing obsession.

Amongst my 27 silver tea sets there is one, similarly degraded but at least I can take comfort in the knowledge that my splendid rich edwardian set was polished almost to death by zealous servants serving tea to their masters every day. I would not be so sure in this case.

excellent and thankyou very much indeed for all of your help :)
i can now rest easy knowing that i have at least a vintage pair of decanters *wants antique*
i wish i was a port swilling edwardian master...
would have perished of severe gout by the time i was 40 though im sure
and those ruddy servants would have had all my silver! :p
