Unknown hallmarks on coin that should be from 1526-44

Post by cbtech »

Hello,

I hope you can help me. I am looking at a Henry 8th half crown which should be made of gold (and not have hallmarks), however this one seems to have them. Does anyone know why this may have been hallmarked and what they mean - or is this a fake.

Many thanks.

The date letter H looks like London 1982 so definitely it shouldn't be found 16th century coin. Maybe it's a museum replica or something like that. Or a genuine coin later modified to be part of an item and thus hallmarked. Could you post an image of the coin itself although this isn't really a forum for coins.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Your image is very small, but appears to show a set of London silver marks for 1982.

It would appear that you a gold-plated silver restrike of the coin, perhaps once part of a commemorative set?

Trev.

Thank you for your help - I think you're right and this is a replica.
